How to choose a destination?

Four years into my own little romance, he finally popped the question, “Will you marry me”? I wish I could say the proposal was grand, intimate, and the most thoughtful gesture you could imagine. But no – he popped a ring under the pillow and waited until I found it. That’s my husband, “You’ll never get a grand gesture out of me, Harry.” Nonetheless, I was excited and hit the ground running, ready to start my very own wedding… and of course, with family in the Dominican Republic, a destination wedding was the only option for me.

Remember, your love story is as unique as you are, and your wedding should reflect that special connection. While I found my heart leading me back to the Dominican Republic, your path might unfold differently. Take a moment to reflect on your own love story – the shared moments, the unique quirks, and the dreams you both cherish.

Consider your personal preferences and backgrounds; let them be the compass guiding you toward the perfect destination for your celebration. Whether it's the enchanting beaches of the Caribbean, the vibrant culture of Mexico, or the tropical allure of Jamaica, your destination should echo the melody of your love.

It’s actually not as easy as it sounds; it was easy for me as there were no other options than my homeland… for others, the struggle of finding the perfect island and then the perfect resort and/or venue to host your guests can be daunting. And so, as a travel expert, I’m going to give you a tip or two on the top 3 o the top Destination Wedding countries.

**1. Dominican Republic – Where the Party Begins**

Why? Well, it's a no-brainer.

  - Budget-Friendly Bliss: Cheaper resorts than Cancun or Jamaica, catering to all budgets.

  - Top-Notch Hospitality: From fancy 5-star spots to budget-friendly retreats, the service is unbeatable.

  - Offsite Wedding Havens: I've explored them all – ask me for the juicy details.

Let me tell you how I planned 3 weddings at 3 of the top venues in Punta Cana. I’ve only been married once, but… honestly, this story deserves its own blog, so be sure to keep an eye out for it.

  - Flight Considerations: Northeast travelers, you're golden. But beware, longer and pricier flights than Mexico.

  - And the pictures? Oh boy, the Dominican Republic has it all – the blue waters, palm trees whispering secrets to the sky. Punta Cana is pure magic, and have you seen Altos de Chavon?

**2. Jamaica - Vibe Central**

Jamaica's a blast, a true "vibe" island.

  - Adults-Only Fun: Blame Bob Marley – his "Love the life you live. Live the life you love" sets the tone for adult enjoyment.

  - Price Tag Alert: A bit pricier than the others, but oh, the food! Oxtail – need I say more?

  - Family-Friendly Limit: Great choices, but a tad limited for the family-friendly crew.

  - Nightlife Nirvana: Ready to party outside the resort? Jamaica knows how to keep the fun going.

**3. Mexico, Lindo! - My Personal Fave**

Yeah, I'm Dominican, had my wedding in Punta Cana, but Mexico stole my heart.

  - Endless Resorts: Mexico spoils you for choice – and just when you think you've seen them all, more pop up.

  - Cultural Charm: Go for "authentic Mexico" vibes – a wedding at Xcaret Resort? An absolute dream!

  - Flight Bliss: Cancun airport does it right – direct and affordable flights from many states.

  - Top-Notch Resorts: Trust me, these resorts are top-notch – better maintained, more modern, and just overall higher quality.
